Bridge Remains (15378-RDA)

The focus of this picture is on the few remains of what was once an important bridge across the River Dove. All that remains now are three pillars on each side and two pillboxes which were used to defend the bridge during the Second World War.

The location is Marston on Dove, Derbyshire, England.

The bridge was owned by the North Staffordshire Railway Company and carried a section of the railway which originally ran between Burton on Trent and Uttoxeter, about 12½ miles in length. The train which ran on this line was called the Tutbury Jinny. The line opened in 1848 and closed soon after 1960. Afterwards, the bridge was demolished and the track dismantled.
