Sheepwash Bridge, Ashford-in-the-Water (27617-RDB)
The 17t century Sheepwash Bridge, spanning the River Wye at Ashford-in-the-Water, Derbyshire, England. Originally this was a packhorse bridge, but later it was used for washing sheep. The lambs were placed in the stone pen on the left, the ewes were then released on the opposite side. They swam across the river to their lambs and in so doing, their fleece was washed prior to shearing.
